The Accounting Theory was founded on September 7, 2017 by Nicky Zagata, a young entrepreneur with a passion for educating and supporting other small business owners by letting them focus on everything on the front end, while she kept everything in line with the books on the back end. After many years as a solo operation, Nicky has built a team of experienced accountants who have the same mission in mind.

Here at The Accounting Theory, we believe in hard work and overachieving. We know what it takes for our clients to get where they are, and we want to be a part of their team to push through to the next level.
With over 19 years of experience in the finance industry, Nicky is passionate about guiding and supporting small business owners as they navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship. After working her way up through several CPA firms and small businesses, she fulfilled her dream of opening her own accounting firm in 2017. Her mission is to help business owners make confident, informed decisions based on accurate financial reporting and clean, dependable numbers. Nicky firmly believes that having the right team in place from the start is key to building a successful business.
A proud Livonia native, Nicky earned her degree from Madonna University, where she developed a strong foundation in accounting, finance, and business leadership.
When she's not working with clients, Nicky enjoys spending quality time with her husband and their four children. Whether she’s cheering from the sidelines or relaxing by the pool, family time is always a priority.

Jen is a busy wife and mom of three, working as an Account Manager for The Accounting Theory. Her meticulous attention to detail, ability to multi-task and sound knowledge of accounting principles and standards demonstrate the exceptional service she provides our clients with, helping them reach their financial goals.
When she’s not in the office you can find her in a hockey rink, dance studio or gymnastics meet cheering on her kids.
Fun Facts: She’s also a licensed Esthetician and has been for over 11 years. She loves Astrology, True Crime Podcasts, Brunch (with Bloody Mary’s, of course) and believes everything happens for a reason.

Rachel is a numbers girl through and through. She prides herself on organization, time management, and attention to detail and isn’t ashamed to admit to her deep love of spreadsheets! She is happily married to her high-school sweetheart and they have one son, Oliver.
She enjoys reading, travel, and interior design. Her favorite vacation destination thus far has been Vail, Colorado - the mountains are good for the soul! We are pleased to have her on board!

Olivia is working on her associate's degree at Oakland Community College studying Sign Language Interpreting. She prides herself on her ability to adapt easily in order to provide support for various people and tasks. She brings her years of experience to our team and helps to organize our office so everything runs smoothly.
When she’s not working or in school, you can find her reading a good book, traveling, or baking.
